LEADERSHIP
Conceived and initiated by leaders from the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) in the fall of 2017, Back from the Brink: Bringing Communities Together to Abolish Nuclear Weapons is a collaborative effort, designed to not be owned by any single individual or organization.
A Steering Committee that includes representatives of UCS, PSR, PSR-LA, Soka Gakkai International- USA, and The Outrider Foundation manages the initiative. Back from the Brink holds monthly Local Organizing Meetups composed of these and other partners to recruit supporters and endorsements and builds support through resolutions, media efforts and engaging with local/state elected officials, members of Congress and other organizations. In addition, several local chapters of endorsing organizations have led successful municipal resolution efforts, including American Friends Service Committee, Pax Christi, Peace Action, and Veterans for Peace.
If you have any questions about Back from the Brink’s leadership or would like to get involved, please contact us at info@preventnuclearwar.org.
“Nuclear weapons are not a force of nature, they are not an act of God. We have made them with our own hands and we know how to take them apart. We’ve already dismantled more than 50,000 of them. The only thing that’s missing is the political will and commitment to do this. And that’s where all of us come in.”
