Last week, Mayor Frank Cownie of Des Moines, Iowa signed a proclamation declaring June 22nd, 2020 “Back from the Brink: The Call to Prevent Nuclear War Day” in solidarity with our campaign. Mayor Cownie has demonstrated real leadership in speaking out against the dangers of nuclear weapons, and we thank him for his advocacy and support! And many thanks to the local activists, including PSR Iowa for its continued dialogue with local officials. Click here to view the language of the proclamation, which references the $39 million dollars that leaves the city annually to fund nuclear weapons.

On June 16th, the City Council of Carlsbad, CA passed a resolution in support of Back from the Brink’s 5 policy points, becoming the 44th city to do so nationwide. The resolution also encouraged federal leaders to embrace the U.N. Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Thanks to the activists involved, particularly the San Diego Chapter of Veterans for Peace for their advocacy, and congrats on the win! To read the full text of the resolution, click here.
