WEEK OF ACTION 2026

Back from the Brink is hosting a Week of Action focused on highlighting and growing congressional leadership on nuclear disarmament starting Monday, September 21 — the annual International Day of Peace and ending Saturday, September 26 —the United Nations Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

The Week of Action kicks off our fall push to secure 20 more cosponsors for House Resolution 317 and Senate Resolution 323 by the end of the year.

These two Back from the Brink resolutions currently have 70 cosponsors, and articulate our five policy solutions to prevent nuclear war and achieve a world free of nuclear weapons.

Why does this matter? Congress has a vital role in building the support and leadership needed to advance nuclear disarmament and risk reduction efforts. Every new cosponsor adds a visible voice in Congress calling for action on nuclear disarmament, helping build momentum and political pressure needed to make nuclear disarmament a congressional priority.

Each day will have an action theme in support of our fall campaign goal.

Tuesday, September 22 – POST & SHARE 💬

Post your support for the resolutions and the campaign on social media by reposting our content. Here are some ways you can do that:

1. Like and share our Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky posts all week long.

2. Repost this video which features several members of the House who have cosponsored the Back from the Brink resolution (H. Res. 317) and talk about how abolishing nuclear weapons is necessary, possible and realistic if we the people demand it, and decision-makers in the U.S. and around the world recognize our collective interest in confronting this existential threat to humanity.

You can repost it and tag your members of Congress, letting them know that this is what congressional leadership on nuclear disarmament looks like.

3. Post your own message on your channels and make sure to tag Back from the Brink and your members of Congress. Here are some sample posts:

  • A world free of nuclear weapons is both necessary and possible if we the people demand that Congress and other leaders in Washington show real leadership. Join me in supporting [Back from the Brink] and their congressional resolutions, H. Res. 317 and S. Res. 323.
  • I believe in a better, safer world and future, and doing what I can to protect who and what I love and cherish – my family, my community, this wonderful planet. That’s why I’m involved with [Back from the Brink] and committed to helping achieve a world free of nuclear weapons.

Wednesday, September 23 – CALL &/or WRITE 🗣️

Call and/or write your member of Congress to cosponsor H. Res. 317 or S. Res. 323 in a coordinated push – or thank them for having already done so.

Every major shift in U.S. nuclear policy has started the same way: with ordinary people raising their voices at key moments. When constituents call their Members of Congress — especially from their home districts — it creates a clear signal that people in the community care about reducing nuclear risk and supporting justice for communities harmed by nuclear weapons

Here’s how your call fits into the bigger picture:

  • Constituent calls get logged and counted. Congressional staff track how many people call about each issue and report that directly to the Member.
  • Volume creates momentum. When Members see rising local engagement, they are more likely to cosponsor, speak publicly, or take leadership roles.
  • Momentum builds power. Each new cosponsor strengthens the coalition pushing for responsible nuclear policy and justice for communities harmed by nuclear weapons.
  • Power shapes long‑term change. Growing congressional support lays the foundation for future hearings, oversight, and policy shifts — the multi‑year strategy behind H. Res. 317 / S. Res. 323.
