From March 3-7, representatives of countries that have signed and ratified the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), along with nuclear weapons abolitionists from around the world, will gather in New York City for the 3rd Meeting of States Parties (3MSP).

Back from the Brink will bring a delegation to attend 3MSP, as well as co-host and speak at several in-person and virtual events (see details below). If you’re planning to attend 3MSP or planning local efforts around it, please reach out to us at info@preventnuclearwar.org.

For those who will not be in attendance, we’ve also outlined some ways you can engage your elected officials and actions you can take in the lead-up to 3MSP.

Municipalities play important roles in building public support for the abolition of nuclear weapons. Today, with rising global tensions amid a new arms race, this leadership is more important than ever.

If Not Now, When?

Date: Tuesday, March 4

Time: 7:00-9:30pm

Location: Scandinavia House, 58 Park Ave

The 3rd Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) will be taking place at a time when the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has advanced the hands of its Doomsday Clock to 89 seconds to midnight, we face nuclear threats over Ukraine and Taiwan, and the nuclear weapons states are all upgrading the nuclear arsenals. This also comes amidst tectonic geopolitical transformations and shortly after the Nobel Committee sent an urgent message to the world by awarding its Peace Prize to Nihon Hidankyo, the Japan Confederation of A- & H- Bomb Sufferers Organizations.

To build our movements and to advance their coordination, the International Peace Bureau, the Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security, and Peace Action New York State have organized an international forum with an extraordinary array of speakers.

This event is free and open to the public! Light refreshments will be served.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Reiner Braun, International Peace Bureau
  • Jackie Cabasso, Western States Legal Foundation/Abolition 2000
  • Sharon Dolev, Middle East Treaty Organization
  • Maylene Hughes, Back from the Brink & PSR-LA
  • Rami Khoury, Renowned Journalist
  • Tong Zhao, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace
  • Masako Wada, Assistant Secretary General, Hidankyo
  • Aigerim Seitenova, 3rd-generation Survivor of Soviet Nuclear Testing & Qazaq Nuclear Frontline Coalition in Kazakhstan

This event is co-sponsored by the International Peace Bureau, Peace Action New York State & Campaign for Peace, Disarmament & Common Security.
