Several BftB Hubs and partners are members of the Alliance for Nuclear Accountability’s (ANA), which held it’s 38th annual DC Days from June 8-11 to advocate for safer nuclear weapons and waste policies.
Founded by communities in the shadows of U.S. nuclear weapons facilities, ANA includes 30 organizations concerned with the local and national consequences of nuclear weapons and waste policy decisions.
Representatives from PSR-LA, Tri-Valley CAREs, PeaceWorks Kansas City, Nukewatch New Mexico, and the Atlanta BftB Hub joined with some 60 participants at DC Days this year for a total of nearly 80 meetings with Congressmembers and agency staff. Evening events included a film screening, pizza party, and an awards reception.
BftB is proud that our own Alex Jasset of PSR-LA received ANA’s 2025 Bill Mitchell Grassroots Activists award, named for ANA’s founder Bill Mitchell. Alex was honored for his dedication to nuclear abolition, energy justice, and the importance of centering frontline communities in policy advocacy as reflected in his service on ANA’s DC Days committee and efforts to increase youth and newcomer participation. ANA awarded 20 scholarships this year for next-generation and BIPOC leaders to attend DC Days!
ANA’s policy recommendations for 2025 DC Days included opposing new nuclear warheads, bomb plants, and the production of new plutonium pits, as well as supporting H. Res. 317 — Back from the Brink’s primary legislative vehicle. ANA also asked Congress for full funding of nuclear site cleanups, and to oppose consolidated interim storage of nuclear waste and building new reactors.
Back from the Brink is thankful to all who participated in ANA’s DC Days. Learn more about ANA and its 2025 policy recommendations.
