On February 16, Johnson County, Iowa’s Board of Supervisors voted to approve a Back from the Brink proclamation.

Supporters of the proclamation made their case both in-person (weathering blizzard conditions, no less!) as well as via Zoom. Congratulations to all who supported this effort, including John Rachow and Maureen McCue of Physicians for Social Responsibility, Iowa, Evalee Mickey of Pax Christi USA, Miriam Kashia of 100 Grannies for a Livable Future, Ed Flaherty of Veterans for Peace, Ben Otoadese, a student at Brown University, and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.

Maureen McCue shares, “I was impressed how all spoke very passionately to the reasons this is such an important effort. And they all hailed from the far corners of the county […] The commitment of each to show up and speak out at such a trying time with so much on everyone’s plate impressed me too.”
