Folks around the country are getting pretty excited about H. Res. 77—the congressional Back from the Brink (BftB) nuclear disarmament resolution—and we are going full steam ahead supporting it.
Will you join us on Wednesday, April 19th and participate in our H. Res. 77 National Call-in Day to make a quick call to your U.S. House Representative urging them to co-sponsor the bill?
H. Res. 77 calls on the United States to embrace the goals and provisions of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) and to take concrete steps to prevent nuclear war. BftB is using the bill as a key organizing and advocacy tool for us to get Congress talking about nuclear disarmament and for some members of Congress to show actual leadership.
We know that calls from constituents to their members of Congress can have a huge impact. So our goals for this National Call-in Day are simple—get a bunch of folks like you from around the country to call your U.S. House member to urge them to co-sponsor H. Res. 77. You can call anytime during the day that is convenient for you.
Here’s how it will work:
We ask you to register to participate in the April 19th Call-in Day. That way we know how many folks are making calls.
After you register and before April 19th, you will receive an email with detailed information including background about H. Res. 77, talking points, report back forms, and congressional contact information.
You’ll also receive a link to an all-day Zoom “virtual community room” that BftB will host on the 19th so folks like you can drop in to get advice and information from BftB staff and Steering Committee members (including phone numbers and names of Congressional staff you might speak to), share updates on your call experience, meet other activists, and, if you have the time and interest, take other actions such as directing social media messages to members of Congress and writing letters to the editor.
