American democracy is under siege. The November 2022 elections will be a harbinger of our democracy’s future and with it our country’s ability to make meaningful progress on so many important issues, including preventing nuclear war and abolishing nuclear weapons.
Please join Back from the Brink for All in: Preventing Nuclear War Means Defending Democracy, a vitally important virtual webinar/roundtable discussion on Wednesday, September 28 at 7pm ET, and hear from a panel of experts and pro-democracy advocates and learn how you can get involved.
During this discussion you will gain a fuller understanding of the threats to our democracy and the rule of law at the state and federal level and what’s at stake in the 2022 and 2024 elections. Perhaps most importantly, you will learn about efforts underway across the country and in your community to defend voting rights and the integrity of elections and empower and register voters, particularly those most marginalized or threatened in our communities.
We’ll closely examine how the future of our democracy and nuclear abolition are inextricably linked — and why if our democracy further falters, the risk of nuclear war will increase. We must prevent that from happening.
We’ll likewise examine how un-democratic the current nuclear weapons decision and policy making system is and how the Back from the Brink campaign is giving people and communities a true voice and agency on this issue that affects us all. We’ll discuss our campaign’s plans and strategies for the months ahead going into 2023.
Speakers include:
- Shailly Gupta Barnes, Policy Director, Poor People’s Campaign & Kairos Center for Religions, Rights and Social Justice
- Justin Kwasa, Democracy Program Director, League of Conservation Voters Education Fund
- Mike Latner, Senior Fellow, Union of Concerned Scientists’ Center for Science & Democracy
- Kimberly Scott, Executive Director, Georgia Women’s Action for New Directions
There will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of our panel. Please join us on the 28th. This is an all hands on deck moment and the next two months could not be any more important. Don’t hesitate to contact us at info@preventnuclearwar.org with any questions.
