On December 12, 2023, Mayor Konstantine Anthony of the City of Burbank, CA issued a proclamation in support of the abolition of nuclear weapons. This significant initiative was prompted by the dedicated efforts of Eddie Laiche, a student who founded the Burbank Nuclear Abolitionist Club at John Burroughs High School.

Collaborating closely with Back from the Brink and Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles, Eddie diligently pursued a resolution before the Burbank city council. Through coordinated efforts, he successfully arranged a meeting with the Mayor, culminating in the presentation of the proclamation to Eddie and fellow students by Mayor Konstantine Anthony.

The proclamation concludes “I, Konstantine Anthony, Mayor of the City of Burbank, do hereby SUPPORT THE ABOLITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS as the City recognizes the tremendous human, environmental, and global costs associated with these weapons. We are committed to promoting a safer, more secure world for all.”
