START A HUB

Thank you for your interest in formally starting a Back from the Brink (BftB) Hub! Our Hub model is our national, distributed network of grassroots organizers throughout the United States who are working together to rid the world of nuclear weapons and secure a set of common sense nuclear weapons policies in the U.S. that will make the world safer, healthier, and more just.

Our power comes from activists coming together locally to demand changes from our elected officials – and our Hub model is an integral piece of our strategy.

What is a BftB Hub? Who can create one?

BftB Hubs serve as a local rallying point for people who are interested in working locally with their community or in their region to advocate for the abolition of nuclear weapons through BftB’s five policy solutions.

A BftB Hub ideally consists of representatives from organizations who want to get involved with the issue, but you can also start with a small group of individuals.

We welcome prospective BftB Hub leaders with varying levels of organizing experience. The national BftB team will provide you with ongoing support, training, and guidance so you can be a successful BftB Hub.

Please note that Back from the Brink is a non-partisan coalition which does not engage in partisan activities or electioneering.

Here’s the minimum criteria to be a BftB Hub:

  • A stated commitment to work towards BftB’s five policy solutions
  • A defined territory that does not overlap with existing BftB Hubs
  • An identified local point of contact (“Hub Leader”) who convenes periodic local meetings committed to recruiting, onboarding, and activating participants
  • A willingness to be listed on our website as a BftB Hub

Not required, but nice to have:

  • A representative to attend monthly Hub Leader meetings organized by the national BftB team
  • Local organizational support (e.g. a local chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility, Peace Action, Pax Christi, Sierra Club, an organization that has endorsed our campaign, etc.)

Activities that BftB Hubs may organize:

  • Passing resolutions highlighting BftB’s five policy solutions in their local governments
  • Gathering BftB campaign endorsements from elected officials and other organizations
  • Meeting with elected officials and members of Congress about the campaign
  • Hosting and supporting local events or actions
  • Educating and engaging local media and influencers
  • Connecting and forging relationships with others in your community
  • Supporting and showing up for other local groups, movements, and campaigns

Continue below to submit an interest form as either an individual who wants to start a BftB Hub or a representative of an existing organization that’s interested in becoming or organizing a BftB Hub.
