On April 2, Milwaukee, Wisconsin adopted a Back from the Brink resolution with the unanimous support of its Common Council!
The Milwaukee resolution supports Back from the Brink’s five policy solutions: calling on U.S. leaders to actively pursue a verifiable agreement among nuclear-armed states to eliminate their nuclear arsenals; renounce the option of using nuclear weapons first; end the sole, unchecked authority of any U.S. President to launch a nuclear attack; take U.S. nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert; and cancel the plan to replace the entire U.S. nuclear arsenal with enhanced weapons.
The Milwaukee resolution also notes that Milwaukee citizens voted overwhelmingly for a 1982 referendum to freeze nuclear weapons production, that the City of Milwaukee has been a member of Mayors For Peace since 2006, and that the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution in September 2021, endorsing Back from the Brink’s policy solutions to prevent nuclear war.
Back from the Brink congratulates the coalition of 18 organizations and dozens of activists who came together for the Milwaukee resolution effort: Peace Action-Wisconsin, Milwaukee Veterans for Peace, Physicians for Social Responsibility-Wisconsin,
